Magnetic Padlock
Instructions & Troubleshooting
Lubricating your Magnetic Padlock
Lubrication is recommended, especially if the padlock is to be used in high humidity, extreme cold, or corrosive environments. Silicone based or other “dry” lubricants are recommended. Oil based lubricants should NOT be used. Spray lubricant into the two drain holes at the bottom of the padlock and wipe off excess.
Repeat every 3-6 months, as needed, or if lock is to be left unused for long periods of time.
The padlock doesn't open
The Magnetic Padlock’s mechanism is spring-loaded. If the shackle is under tension when the user tries to open it, the mechanism will not actuate. To release the the mechanism, find a way to push the shackle into the lock body before attempting to pull the shackle open. One easy technique is to hold the padlock perpendicular to the door or gate, and hit the bottom of the lock body into the door or gate with the bottom of your hand or soft hammer, such that the shackle gets pushed into the padlock body.
How to Change Shackles
- Open the padlock.
- With magnetic key on the padlock, insert the long end of the NEW shackle into the open shackle hole on the padlock.
- Turn the OLD shackle such that the locking end is just behind the lock body
- Push the OLD shackle into the lock body, and pull out completely.
- Remove the NEW shackle from the locking side of the padlock, and insert the long end into the pivot side of the padlock.
The Padlock is frozen
Ice buildup can seize up the padlock from the outside, but the inner mechanism should still be intact. To get the lock open, you will need to remove the ice buildup with a hammer/chisel, melt it with water. After removing ice buildup, there may still be some ice preventing the shackle from moving. Hitting the shackle INTO the padlock body while the magnetic key is on the padlock helps break any interfering ice.
